How My Interests or Hobbies Improve My English

It could be said that the interest of a person would be something that could affect the person's personality or more exactly a hobby that they did give a positive or negative impact for those who like or do their hobby. It depends on what they are doing. I’m still talking about the hobby. But here will be discussing the positive side of the hobbies that I love. And what is the impact that occurred when doing our hobbies. I really love to listen to the music because it is only by listening to music we can feel happy. Many people said that when listening to the music our mood will change. So what’s the relationship between my hobbies can improve my English? Of course, there are.

As I already said, I really love listening to music. Moreover, when listening to the songs in English. At first, when listening to the song I did not know what was sung by the singer, but when listening to the song over and over again I became to know the lyrics, even though not entirely true. But after that, I immediately checked the lyrics to see how far I know the lyrics of the song correctly. Moreover, it made me memorize the lyrics of the song when someone playing the song. It could train my hearing through the song.

Actually, not only listen to music but also my other hobbies are watching movies and reading novels. Not much different from listening to music. Watching movies and reading novels are the best way to improve my English. The difference between watching movies and listening to music is when listening to music we can see the lyrics of the song but if you watch the movie we could not see the script they were saying, but we can only listen to what they say. So, unavoidably we must strive fully to know what was being said by listening to what they say. For the beginner, we can see the meaning of what they say who appeared on the screen but for the next time start watching a movie that does not use subtitles. Thus, it could train our hearing, but by watching movies.

If listening to music and watching movies can train our hearing in English, it different from reading the novels. By reading novels, it can increase our ability to including me in reading and could improve our vocabulary in English. Thus it will help us and me to improve my English. Not only novel, but we can read the others book or something else, such as magazines, books or articles. But I am more interested in reading a novel, so I prefer to read novels rather than read another. But once in a while, I read an article on the internet only to find out the current information. And if it finds a word which I did not know that means, like a new vocabulary, then I write them down and open the dictionary to find out what it means. So little by little it can help me when I found the same word. And it also can train my memory.

So basically, my interest in listening to music, watching movies and reading novels can improve my English either in listening and reading or writing. Because you could say that all three are related to each other. So, if it did continuously it can make us or our English better and we can be more confident to speak in English.

Personal Statement

I graduated from a vocational high school in 2012. But after that, I did not immediately continue my study, but I am looking for a job. At first, I wanted to continue my study to STAN, where majors will I take is majoring in accounting. But when I want to register it turns STAN has not opened registration for accounting majors but only opened registration for the Department of Customs. Then in 2013, I decided to continue my study because I think if I just graduated from vocational high schools was still less and I want more than that. That's why I started thinking about what majors will I take. Then I signed up for a special college for computer or you could say STMIK and search for scholarship and it turns out I got it but after I think about it, I do not like the majors. So... Finally, I did not take the majors.

Then I told my parents that I wanted to major in English Literature but I still do not know which college has that major. Until the end, my father told me that at Bina Nusantara has majored in English Literature. So, why did I choose BINUS? Because the distance from my home to BINUS is not far away, so parents no need to worry about me when I wanted to go to the campus. Perhaps you are confused, why I chose English Department? And what's your expectation after graduation from BINUS? And why I chose BINUS? Why did I not choose another campus? Why? I choose English Department because basically, I really really like language very much, especially English and Chinese.

At first, I wanted to major in Chinese Literature and my parents also asked me to take that major. But after considering it again I chose the English Department as my major. And my parents support my choice. I chose this major because I see there are quite a lot of opportunities. Moreover, I also really like to learn new things and also I was very like to share things that I know to the people and it can be said that I love to teach because I wanted to share the knowledge that I have to the people. That is why in the 5th semester I took teaching as my streaming. Why BINUS? As I've said before because BINUS is close to my house so I do not need to spend a lot of costs just to go to campus. And again when the rainy season arrives, my parents do not have to worry when it rains because they could take me or pick me up.

My expectation after graduation from BINUS I want to get a job that suits with my field which is, of course, related to the English, such as a teacher or I can also want to open a private course. Since my apprenticeship to become a teacher, I want to teach children in private schools or in schools that are not familiar with the English language, such as schools in rural areas. As I said earlier, that I am very fond of new things and I want to learn something new that I had never experienced or do before. The point after graduation I want to be a teacher. Due to, work as a teacher has a very flexible working hours. And if I could, I wanted to continue my study to a higher level. And I also hope that after I graduated from the English Department, I can be more skilled in speech, especially in speaking English. I hope my English becomes more fluent and I can be more confident to speak in front of people.
